The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested 11 Pakistanis in Techiman the capital of the Bono East Region.
Municipal Commander for GIS, Chief Supt. Annor Abrokwa tells Ark News they were arrested on Sunday, 9th June 2019 from their hide out at Kenten – Anyinabrem a suburb of Techiman upon a tip off.
“We had a tip off that they were hiding at a location close to a refuse dump in the area. When we arrested them they told us they were in the area for evangelism and that they were brought to the country by a man called Amadu Seidu. We contacted the authorities in the area including the municipal chief Imam of which they all told us they know nothing about their stay” he explained.
“When we arrested them they had no passport so this morning we got hold of their passport so we are preparing to send them to our headquarters in Accra for investigations” he added
The Techiman Municipal Commander however called on residents in the area to go through the right procedure when renting their rooms to foreigners.
Chief Supt. Annor Abrokwa however called on Muslims in the Techiman municipality to consult the GIS before allowing foreigners into their homes.
“We know the Muslim religion is broad so I will like to call on our Muslim brothers and sisters to liaise with our office before allowing foreign visitors into their homes. That’s the right thing because allowing them to stay in you homes without consulting us is a crime” he noted.
“And to the landlords in the Municipality, whoever has rented their homes to foreigners should with immediate effect come to our offices for the necessary procedures to be followed because we will soon be pouncing on them” he indicated
