The Police commander for Tano South, Supt. Abraham Bansah and his men over the weekend sustained various degrees of injuries after aggrieved youth in Techimantia a town in the municipality attacked them.
Ark FM’s Kojo Mframa who reports the aggrieved residents pelted stones at the security men after they failed to hand over a suspected murderer to the aggrieved residents for them to lynch him.
He said, the police had earlier received a report that a 67-year-old farmer Afua Fofie was strangled to death at her farm at Techimantia.Police went to the scene retrieved the body and was deposited at the Bechem mortuary.
On the following day police had information that that a 27-year-old farmer Latif Baguama was the suspected behind the gruesome murder.
When the police visited his house o cause his arrest, he was not around but on hearing he was being sought after by the police he surrendered himself.
The angry youth upon hearing his surrender besieged the police station in demand of him to be released and lynched for the murder of the 67-year-old woman.
When the police refused to oblige to their request, they massed up at the station and started pelting stones at the unprovoked cops on duty.
Sensing danger, the police managed to relocate the suspect but before help could come the incensed youth vandalized their homes as well as their offices in search of the suspect.
“A reinforcement was called in from Bechem but it did little until a reinforcement from Sunyani arrived to salvage the situation and relocated the suspect to the Regional Capital” Kojo Mframa added.
Our reporter, Kojo Mframa later added that the Tano South Police Commander Supt. Abraham Bansah and others who sustain injuries were later rushed to St John of God hospital at Duayaw Nkwanta to receive health care.
