Aggrieved residents of New Dormaa in Sunyani Municipality on Tuesday night blocked the main Sunyani Techiman highway for the second time in a fortnight after a moving vehicle reportedly knocked down a resident.
The injured victim whose name was given as Karihm was however rushed to the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital for treatment.
The action by the residents is the second time in a month they have blocked the road over the continued knock down of residents as a result of the halted construction of the highway.
The discontinued project has led to the conversion of a single lane of the highway into a dual lane, putting lives of the residents in extreme danger as they cross from one side of the road to the other.
Ark FM’s Akroma Deefour who was in the community reported that the aggrieved residents, mostly youth, were seen packing wood logs and burning tyres on the road, impeding the free flow of vehicular traffic.
“Vehicles approaching Sunyani as well as those moving outside the city had to halt as a result of the blockage by the aggrieved residents”, he added.
Some of the aggrieved residents told Akroma Deefour the Regional Minister, Mrs Evelyn Kumi Richardson, who promised a meeting between the regional coordinating council and authorities of the community after she foiled an earlier demonstration over the halted road project and scheduled for April 29, 2019 failed to fulfill her promise, which they described as not the best.
The residents have since given a stern warning to the Bono Regional Coordinating Council and the High Way Authority to attend to their call or face their wrath in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police commander DCOP Godfred Owusu Boateng this morning, has called for calm among the residents during a visit to the area as he moves to engage the regional High Ways directorate on measures to get the contractor back on site.
