Confirmed: Bono Regional Minister gets Parliamentary green light

Embattled Bono Regional Minister designate has finally been confirmed by Parliament. With a total of 210 Members in the house, 124 voted yes, whereas 85 disagree her confirmation, with 1 spoilt ballot.

Mrs. Evelyn Ama Kumi Richardson’s fate was left in the balance, after her vetting, following question raised by the Hon. Member for North Torngu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablawkwa about her doctorate title and other document requested from her by the committee.

On the floor of the house today, the Minority Leader Hon. Haruna Iddrisu moved for a secret balloting to decide after they failed to confirm her.

The decision which was announced by the speaker of parliament Rt. Rv. Aaron Mike Oquey however, stalled parliamentary business for hours as members went through a secret ballot.

This makes the second time in the NPP regime a secret balloting to confirm a nominee by the President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo.

A majority vote of 152 was enough to ensure the parliamentary approval of Ms. Otiko Afisah Djaba as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

The Minority Members however, abstained from the balloting process.
