The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) on Thursday commissioned its office in Sunyani, capital of Bono region. The office was commissioned by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Samuel Kwaku Gyimah.
The PURC was established under the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission Act 1997 (Act 538) to regulate and ensure the provision of urban water and electricity utility services in the country.
The Commission used to cover both Ashanti and Brong Ahafo from its office in Kumasi.
Speaking at the function the Director of Regional Operations Alhaji Abukari Jabaru, indicated that he Sunyani office would serve the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions and with the availability of resources new offices would be opened in the new regions.
He explained that consumers in the newly created regions now have the option to lodge their complaints if dissatisfied with the operations of the utility service providers.
The regional operations director added they would visit the utility service providers to assess their requisite capacity, resources and facility to provide the quality services expected from them.
Alhaji Jabani said the PURC office in Sunyani is the first regional office to be commissioned but is the seventh in the country.
He entreated consumers in the three regions to be worthy ambassadors of the commission and assist the Sunyani office to operate smoothly.
The Executive Secretary of PURC, Mrs. Mami Dufie Ofori, on her part urged consumers to collaborate with and assist the office to enhance its work.
The Regional Manager, Mr. Patrick Nana Yaw Antwi, gave assurance the office was determined to effectively carry out its education to the general public and ensure the delivery of quality service in the provision of water and electricity.
