Member of Parliament for Jaman North Hon. Siaka Stevens has said the current deadlock between Drobo and Japekrom Traditional Councils in Jaman South would be a challenge if he assumed office as Deputy Bono Regional Minister designate.
He debunked the assertion that the impasse was due to a chieftaincy dispute, saying it was rather just a misunderstanding between the two towns.
Mr Stevens said he would work in cooperation with the Brong Ahafo House of Chiefs to resolve the problem when he assumed office. The impasse between the twin towns has led to periodic clashes between their residents, the last one which led to the imposition of dusk to dawn curfew by government on the two towns and surrounding communities.
Mr Stevens was speaking in an interview on Ark fm’s 6pm news hours after his nomination.
The deputy regional designate promised to ensure the review of the documentation of the Sunyani airport and to, as a matter of urgency, make recommendations to government for the rehabilitation and expansion of the facility.
Mr Stevens expressed joy on his nomination and pledged to work diligently toward the development of the region.
