The government has been urged to render an unqualified apology to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) following the violence that characterized the Ayawaso West Wougon by-elections.
Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Amakye Boateng said the NDC was attacked and intimidated during the elections.R
The NDC withdrew from the by-elections after violence escalated to the La Bawaleshie polling station which is close to the residence of the NDC candidate, Delali Kwesi Brempong.
Armed men clothed in National Security apparel stormed the residence and engaged in a shooting spree.
The National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo claimed their candidate was traumatized, making the party announce a withdrawal from the by-election.
Several civil society groups have condemned the violence and called for a probe into the matter.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Dr. Amakye Boateng said the NDC was unfairly treated.
He noted that the violence which nearly marred the by-elections was much worst what happened in previous by-elections in the country.
Dr. Amakye Boateng called for a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that those found culpable are punished.
