Teenage pregnancy on the rise in Sunyani

Statistics from the Sunyani Municipal Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) indicates that teenage pregnancy is on the increase in Sunyani municipality.

The Municipal Health Promotion officer, Mr. Robin Appiah, told Ark FM news a total of five hundred and ninety two (592) cases were recorded in 2018 as compared to five hundred and forty one (541) cases in 2017.

He stated that out of the cases in 2018, 21 of them were aged between 10 and 14 while five hundred and seventy one (571) were between the ages of 15-19. as compared to 2017 where 14 of the cases were between 10-14 years and five hundred and twenty seven between 15-19years.

Mr Appiah described the development as worrying and called on stakeholders in the municipality to collectively support the fight against teenage pregnancy.
