The Wenchi Municipal Command of the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) on Tuesday arrested a total of 22 tricycle riders in the municipality for committing various traffic offences.
The Municipal Commander, ASP Kofi Amponsah Oduro said in an interview with Ark FM’s Nana Afreh the offences included not wearing helmet, using unregistered tricycles, no roadworthy certificates and insurance.
He disclosed that nine of them had already been arraigned before court.
The exercise was part of measures adopted by the command to restore sanity on roads in the municipality, as the offences contributed to the increasing rate of accidents in the area, the MTTD commander explained.
ASP Oduro advised drivers and riders in the area to avoid breaking traffic laws as the command would not tolerate recalcitrant offenders.
