Ghana’s First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has declared 2019 as the “Year of Reading”.
Speaking at the launch of activities to kick-start the “Year of Reading” an initiative by Ghana Library Authority (GLA), Mrs Akufo-Addo stressed that knowledge can only be acquired through reading.
The theme, “Reading for Progress” according to the First Lady, resonates with the Rebecca Foundation’s work over the last few years and demonstrate the importance of reading in building the human capital required for the growth of all sectors of the economy.
Mrs Akufo-Addo commended the Ministry of Education and the Management and Board of the Ghana Library Authority for bringing libraries back to life in Ghana and the innovation being introduced to get Ghana reading.
She re-launched the mobile library service for the southern sector of the country, open the new acquisition and the expanded Book Processing Unit and unveiled the various books and materials that will support the year of reading agenda.
