Bono East Capital: Nkoranza Chiefs cry foul play

Chiefs and people of Nkoranza Traditional Area have accused the Minister of Regional Re-organization and Development, Dan Botwe, and his Deputy, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah of sidelining them in the creation of the Bono East region.

The chief of Buaben, Nana Owusu Damoah Ameyaw III, addressing a press conference today on behalf of the traditional council explained that representatives of the area were excluded from the numerous meetings held during the process.

He cited that on February five this year at a first meeting organised by the Ministry for the Commission of Inquiry, traditional leaders and the media on the proposed Bono East Region, the chiefs and people of Nkoranza were not invited.

“When the Justice Brobbey Commission received a petition from thirteen out of 14 paramountcies who strongly objected to the change of name from Brong to ‘Bono East’ Region, a meeting was called to discuss the issue but Nananom from Nkoranza Traditional Area were not invited probably because of our stand, the chief added.

Nana Owusu said reports indicated that Techiman would be named as the capital of the new region because Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah and Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi who “played leading roles in Bono East creation are citizens of Techiman.

For this reason, the chiefs and people of Nkoranza will advise themselves accordingly, he added.
