The Ahafo Council of chiefs says the council will accept president Akuffo Addo’s choice for the capital of the newly created Ahafo Region.
Public Relations Officer of the Ahafo Council of chiefs,Nana Baffour Akwasi Bosompra II is however urging the president to do broader consultations before coming out with a capital for the Ahafo Region.
In an interview with Ark News,Nana Baffour Awuah Bosompra II who is the Paramount Chief of Goaso traditional area said chiefs in the area worked hard to ensure that the creation of the region comes to fruition.
He noted that the hard work and unity among the chiefs paid off.
“What we wanted was the region and once we have it wherever the capital goes,we will embrace it”, he added.
According to him,some people have started lobbying for their towns to be chosen as the regional capital but was optimistic that the president will make a good decision in the end.
Nana Baffour Akwasi Bosompra II thanked the president and his cabinet for making their dream come true.
The Ahafo Region is one of the newly created regions in the country as a result of the referendum held in four regions namely Brong Ahafo,Western,Northern and the Volta Region.
Two new regions have thus been carved out of the Brong Ahafo Region;Brong East and Ahafo Region while Savanna and North East were carved out of the Northern Region.
The Volta Region has been divided into two with the formation of the Oti Region while the Western North has been formed out of the Western Region,bringing the total number of regions in the country to 16.
