Wenchi: 70 PWDs Benefit From Disability Fund

The Wenchi Municipal Assembly in the Brong Ahafo Region has disbursed 3% of its common fund to persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality to empower them economically.

The second phase of the disbursement which coincided with the celebration of International Day of People with Disability on Monday, December 3 covered 70 persons who have requested for various working tools and storage facilities to expand their businesses.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Prince Kwakye Afriyie disclosed that His Excellency President Akuffo Addo was committed towards economic empowerment of the citizenry especially people living with disabilities to enable them to be self sufficient.

According to him, the support to PWDs was to help alleviate poverty and to curtail begging.

The MCE said the assembly was committed to ensuring that the percentage of the common fund for the PWDs was equitably disbursed to the members.

Hon Prince Kwakye Afriyie presented deep freezers, sewing machines, fufu pounding machines and other items worth GHS 90,000.00 to the beneficiaries for their upkeep to enable them to start their own businesses without becoming a burden on their families.

The President of the Wenchi branch of Ghana federation for the disabled Mr. Richard Ofosu commended government for the support and pledged to make good use of the items.
