The Information Communications Technology (ICT) Department of Serwaa Kesse Senior School in the Tano North District of the Brong Ahafo Region has developed a system that enables them to conduct student elections electronically.
The E-voting system has been efficient in the two elections conducted so far with the recent one held on Tuesday, December18, 2018.
An ICT tutor of the school, Yao Emmanuel in an interview on Ark in the Morning on Wednesday said the system saved the school cost and time in the election of prefects.
He said the idea was conceived three years ago and with the assistance of the headmistress of the school the team successfully developed the software.
According to him, the system is operated by feeding the photographs and other details of the aspirants.
“The details of the students who are to vote in the elections are also populated into the system and during the voting, students are verified by the system before they proceed to vote”, he explained.
He added that the system collates the ballots as the process goes on so the results are known immediately the voting ends.
Yao Emmanuel was optimistic that government would assist in developing the software to be used for national elections.
Some of the students who appeared on Ark in the Morning today also expressed their satisfaction about the system.
They said voting with the software is more efficient as compared with the previous manual exercises.
According to them, the instructed at the ICT department of the school have helped in enhancing their knowledge.
