Sunyani Municipal Assembly has disbursed GHS25,000 from its share of the Common Fund to support 83 needy but brilliant students, for the payment of their school fees.
According to Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson,”beneficiaries had earlier approached the assembly for financial assistance to enable them further their education”.
She disclosed this when addressing Assembly members and other stakeholders at the Assembly’s Third Ordinary Meeting on Friday.
The MCE in her keynote address said that: “in line with the guidelines for the disbursement of the District Assemblies Common Fund, an amount of twenty five thousand Ghana Cedis (GHs 25,000) was released to assist eighty three brilliant but needy students who applied for assistance from the second and tertiary level schools of learning.”
Hon. Evelyn Ama Kumi urged the beneficiary students to take advantage of the offer and study hard, and come back to serve the district after completing their studies.
In a related development, Madam Kumi-Richardson also revealed that, work has started on the construction of a two storey administration block for the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
“Honorable members, the new 2 storey administration block for the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service I informed you during our last meeting, had now been awarded on contract and work had begun” the MCE stated.
