Information reaching myarkfmonline indicates that The Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suggested to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to slash the filing fee for flag bearer-aspirants by GHS100,000.
Should the proposal of the Elders be accepted by NEC, the flag bearer-aspirants would be paying GHS320,000 as nomination and filing fees instead of the initial GHS420,000.
Also, the Elders have suggested that the period for the picking of nomination forms should be extended to Saturday, 8 December 2018 while the presidential primary should be moved from 19 January 2019 to 26 January 2019.
The party during a press briefing to make an announcement about the elections and other processes indicated that presidential aspirants will have to pay the GH¢400,000 filing fee and GH¢20,000 for the cost of forms but gave some reprieve to female aspirants to only pay half the amount to contest.
Most aspirants hopeful have expressed disapproval of the fee including Mr. Stephen Atubiga who revealed on Friday that his colleagues aspirants have scheduled a meeting over the announcement of the ‘fat’ money made by the Party’s General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia who defends the decision.
The NDC on 19th January 2019 will conduct its primaries throughout the 275 constituencies of the country to elect a flagbearer of the party who is expected to face New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The party’s executives are however yet to officially confirm the new development.
