Brong Ahafo President for the Ghana Federation of Disability Organization (GFD), Ebenezer Nsowah is accusing politicians of not according them the needed respect.
According to him, certain utterances by politicians in trying to defend their parties such as ‘only the blind and deaf do not hear or see of the good works their party in power is doing’ is a clear example.
He believes such utterances clearly show that politicians do not regard them.
Ebenezer Nsowah also expressed worry over the inability of the politicians or the successive governments to pass the Disability Bill.
He made this known when speaking with Ark News’ reporter Agyapong Kumapem on the sidelines of the celebration of International Disability Day at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani on Monday.
Ebenezer Nsowah also urged the government to stop using the Disability Fund to buy items for their members.
According to him, when the items are bought the invoices or the receipts of the article are not provided,a situation he believes is a recipe for corruption.
The theme for this year’s International Disability Day was “Empowering Persons with Disability and ensuring inclusiveness and equality.”
Mr. Nsowah debunked the assertion that their members mismanage the funds when the monies are handed to them.
Meanwhile the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Evans Opoku Bobie has assured the group that the government will do everything to support them.
According to the minister it is the best the Disability Fund is not given to them in cash because some of them tend to misuse it.
He said this when the group presented a petition to him.
