The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Sunyani Central Prisons, ASP Johan Nartey is raising concern over the increasing number of inmates in the facility.
The facility which was originally meant for 450 inmates now houses over nine hundred, posing a health threat to the inmates according to ASP Johan Nartey.
He made this known in an exclusive interview with Ark Fm’s Ohenebabaa Nana Konadu Yiadom during a visit to his outfit on Tuesday.
ASP Nartey however charged government to as a matter of urgency implement measures to deal with congestion in the various prisons in the country.
This he believes will help the facilities serve their purposes as correctional centers.
The PRO for the Sunyani Central Prisons further stressed on the need for the general public to collectively support the work of the prisons service.
Data available at the facility indicates that defilement and narcotic offenders top the number of inmates at the various prisons in the Brong Ahafo Region.
He has however called on stakeholders on that chain to collectively support the fight against that menace.
