The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is also the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, (KNUST) has been requested by the government to reconstitute the governing council of the university that was dissolved by the government last week.
KNUST will be reopen by Friday November 8 in accordance with the directives of President Akufo-Addo.
The University will prior to this get a new council the constitution of which the government has requested Chancellor Otumfour Osei Tutu II to lead.
Government implemented emergency measures on Monday 22nd October 2018 when violence and destruction of property were reported at the University following student demonstrations.
The measures included the closing down of the University, temporary suspension of the Vice Chancellor from post, dissolution of the University council and an imposition of a curfew on campus.
Government’s efforts at restoring normalcy continue to bear fruit as a meetings between various stakeholders on Monday October 29th cleared the way for the constitution of a new University Council by Friday 2nd November, 2018.
Deputy Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, speaking to the Press after meetings in Accra said the progress made was encouraging.
He encouraged all stakeholders to stick to the timelines announced so that government will be in a position to withdraw all emergency measures and return to the University to Normalcy.
