Best Care Mortuary, the facility where a dead body went missing some weeks ago has been explaining the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident,a day after the body was found.
Director of the morgue located at Mantukwa in the Sunyani West District of the Brong Ahafo Region told Ark News that Solomon Kwame Korang’s body was mistakenly collected by another family.
The family was thrown into a state of shock after they discovered that their relative’s body had vanished from the morgue.
They had made all the necessary preparations for the burial and funeral rites only to receive the unfortunate and shocking news the day before the funeral.
Director of Best Care Mortuary,Mr. Boakye Danquah said the body has since been exhumed after going through the necessary procedure.
He explained that the two bodies looked alike and the family and the officials on duty should have gone further to do further checks before releasing the body.
He said the body was intact three weeks after burial, denying that it was decomposing. ‘’Due to the way we treat bodies at our facility, it takes a very long time before it starts to decompose’’.
The Best Care Morgue has accepted the blame and has since apologized to the two families for the blunder.
Mr. Boakye Danquah noted that the incident has prompted them to put in even stiffer measures to ensure that issues of such nature are not repeated.
A family in Sunyani last three weeks demanded the body of their late relative from officials of Best Care Mortuary at Mantukwa in the Sunyani West District after the facility failed to provide it for burial.
According to family head Nana Oboaman Bofotia Boamponsem II, Sunyani Krontihene, the late Solomon Kwabena Korang’s body was deposited at the Best Care Mortuary but could not be traced when they went to collect the body for burial.
He told Ark Fm that the family had made all the necessary arrangements for his final funeral rites at Area 2 in the Sunyani municipality on 10 August 2018 only to be told that the body could not be found at the morgue.
The family had no choice than to call off the funeral. The mood at the funeral grounds was that of disappointment as friends and sympathizers who had come to mourn with the family were turned away.
Nana Oboaman Bofotia Boamponsem II, stated that the staff could not explain how the corpse went missing and have since not given them any assurances that the body would be located.
“We have reported the case to Sunyani Divisional Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and we are still waiting for response from them”.
“We need the corpse of our lovely Brother, we don’t like a situation where people will speculate that the family had used the deceased for rituals or sold the corpse for money rituals” he told Ark FM.
