81 prison inmates were yesterday 13th July through the Justice For All Programme set free to go home. The inmates were at the Sunyani Central Prisons in the Brong Ahafo region.
According to our Security reporter, Linda Konadu Boateng, 108 people were selected to benefit from the program on 13th July. 81 qualified for the screening of which 2 are females with the rest of 79 are males with 9 having special cases.
A court was set to hear the cases of 65 out of the 81 which was presided by High Court judge Justice Clemence J. Honyenuga.
The Programme was initiated in 2007 by the then Attorney-General’s Department/Minister for Justice, Hon. Joe Ghartey in close collaboration with the Judicial Service of Ghana, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Prisons Service, Lawyers, as well as Civil Society groups.
The programme is an initiative aimed at alleviating prison overcrowding through setting up special courts sittings to adjudicate remand prisoner cases in prisons throughout the country.
