The Brong Ahafo Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) has today (April 22, 2018) held its Regional Delegates Congress aimed at deliberating on the affairs of the B/A NPP and to elect new executives for the party without the Electoral Commission (EC).
The development according to a member of the Regional election committee who is the Chairman for the B/A Ghana Bar Association, Lawyer Alfred Tuah Yeboah was necessitated by the absence of the EC, the body responsible for conducting elections in the party.
“We are now going to have an open forum for members to decide whether to conduct the elections or not he stated”.
The Majority Chief Whip who is the Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, Lawyer Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh opposed the decision to conduct the election without the EC saying it was against the laws of the NPP.
“BAR NPP is not different from the other parties in the different regions” he stressed.
This however forced the MP’s present at the congress to organize an emergency meeting in the presence of the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister which they later arrived at a decision to conduct the elections without the EC.
The elections are however on-going with a heavy Police presence.
