The Vice Chairman for Parliamentary select Committee on Local Government Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere has revealed that majority of Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies in the country uses their Internally Generated Funds (IGF) for allowances.
He explained that the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) disbursed by the government is not solely for the development of the various districts adding that portion of the IGF must be added to support the DACF to fasten the development in the country.
He has however tasked Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Assemblies in the country to as a matter of urgency use judiciously the internally generated funds generated by the various districts.
The Tano South MP made this known when he inaugurated the Tano South Municipal Assembly after it has been elevated from the status of a district.
Mr. Yeboah Sekyere further tasked officials of the new municipalities to carry out measures to increase their IGF thereby tasking them to provide an enabling environment for traders within their jurisdiction.
This he says is the only way to increase the IGF which will fasten the development of the various areas and the country at large.
