The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo yesterday launched the much awaited 10-year Cashew Development Policy as a move toward positioning cashew crop as an agriculture goldmine.
This program according to Hon. Asomah Kyeremeh has come into existence to create more employment in the value chain as producers, marketers, distributors among others will engage in processing of the crop.
This, together with other programmes of other selected export crops, will drive industrialization in rural Ghana, diversify agricultural products and provide the needed jobs for the teeming masses of unemployed youth of this country.
He noted that, the 10year cashew development policy is going to be sustainable as compared to other raw materials such as cocoa.
He further cautioned the public especially farmers of indiscriminate act of bush burning across the country who are either hunting, clearing bushes or burning bushes in preparing for the coming farming season.
He said burning of bushes especially in the dry season leads to uncontrolled fire mishaps as experienced in recent fire incidents have caused loss of property. He therefore called on Chiefs and assembly members to help put the situation under control.
