The Young Peoples Guild (YPG) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Resurrection Congregation of New Dormaa in Sunyani on Sunday donated assorted of items to the Sunyani Prisons in the BrongAhafo.
The items included bags of rice, toiletries, sachets of water, detergents and toothpaste, cooking oil, washing powders.
The Sunyani East District Pastor for the Presbytery, Rev. Kwadwo Asamoah, who led the group to present the items to the prison yesterday, said it was the duty of Christians to give to the needy in the society.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Sunyani East district Pastor noted that the presentation was the group’s way of supporting the needy in society. Moreover, he said, it was aimed at complementing efforts the government was making in taking care of inmates across the nation.
Addressing the inmates Rev. Kwadwo Asamoah urged the prisoners not to lose hope in life but instead focus on the Lord with confidence for Him to pull them through the difficult times.
Rev. ASP Gideon Ndebugri, who received the items on behalf of the authorities of the Prisons Service, thanked the association for the gift.
He enumerated a number of difficulties the Sunyani Central Prisons was facing; they included lack of food stuffs, insecticides to spray the rooms and proper water storage for the inmates.
ASP Ndebugri therefore appealed to corporate organisations and philanthropists to come to the aid of the Sunyani Central Prisons in building an ultra-modern church facility for inmates. He said it is the wish of the authorities to have a proper place of worship since the only available place is the canteen.
